Tin Mill Black Plate (TMBP) |
Black plate is low carbon mild steel with a coating of oil. |
Finish |
The finished appearance of Black plate is dependent on the surface roughness of the steel base. The table below gives the characteristics of the finishes available from Parikh Steel. |
Single / Double Reduced Black plate |
Finish Type |
Parikh Steel CODE |
Surface Roughness Ra (micrometers) |
Description |
Stone |
S |
0.40±0.15 |
Regular stone-ground steel base |
|
Oiling |
All products are generally produced with an oil lubricant applied electrostatically to both surfaces. 20 to 60 mg/sq.m of DOS. |
Grain Direction |
As a result of cold rolling, all steel products exhibit some directional properties which can have an influence on product performance. For coil, grain direction is parallel to the coil length. For sheet, grain direction should be specified when ordering. |
Tinplate Coils and Sheets |
Tin plates are cold rolled mild steel electrolytically coated with tin, passivated and oiled. It is furnished in a variety of tin coating, temper and finish. |

Passivation |
3.5 – 6.5 mg/sq.m of chromium per side (with 311 treatment) unless otherwise specified |

All products are generally produced with an oil lubricant applied electrostatically to both surfaces. 5 to 20 mg/sq.m of DOS. |
Open Top Sanitary Cans (OTSC) |
OTS Tinplate product is a differentially coated Tin plate, available in both Single/Double reduced forms, ideally suited for packaging processed food like mango pulp, baked beans, pineapple rings, fruits and juices, mushroom, fish, meat, prawns etc. |
Special Properties |
ISV = 20 micrograms max. Tin Grain Size = ASTM 9 or less numerically. |
Note: Above coating properties are guaranteed on the heavier coated side. |
Double Reduced Tinplate Sheets |
Double Reduced (DR) Tinplate is the packaging material for Cans. It is normally thinner but stronger than conventional Single Reduced material. It is available thickness in the range of 0.17 mm to 0.21mm. DR Tinplate can be a very cost effective replacement of Single Reduced Tinplate in almost all applications. |
DR specifications |
Double Reduced (DR) Tinplates are available in the same range of thickness, width, cut lengths, finish, tin coating, passivation and oil film as Single Reduced Tinplates. |

Product Application |
Tinplate |
Battery |
The battery segment is a highly quality conscious segment -the key quality requirements being closer tolerances on thickness and temper. Tinplate is also used in dry cell segment and alkaline cell segment |
Beverages |
The carbonated beverage segment -soft drinks and beer, tinplate is used based on requirements. |
Cashew |
Cashew is exported from India. Tinplate product is used for the cashew packaging. There is proven advantage of tinplate containers over flexi pouches to prevent 'infestation' and its obvious eco-friendly nature. |
Dairy Products |
The dairy products packed in cans include cheese, milk powder (including infant food) condensed milk, ghee, milk products like paneer, flavoured milk, etc. |
Edible Oil / Vanaspati |
This segment has the largest consumption of tinplate. PFA Act is specifying the use of only prime tinplates conforming to BIS standards (IS 1993). |
Paints |
Tinplate is used as packaging of Paints. While enamels are entirely packed in cans, emulsions are packed in both tins and plastic containers. |
Pesticides |
The pesticide industry uses tin plate for tin containers. Recent directive from the Government is to pack pesticides only in metal containers. |
Processed Foods |
Open Top Sanitary Can quality tinplate is required for this segment. The main products packed are mango pulp, mushroom, vegetables, fish, fruits and fruit juices. |
Aerosol Products |
Tinplate aerosol cans are cheaper as compared to aluminum aerosols. |
Cold Rolled |
CR Products are widely used in following Industries:
- Automobiles Industry
- White Goods Industries
- Furniture Office Automation
- Electric Lamination
- Precision Tubes & Pipes
- Tins, Containers & Barrels
- Control Panel Boards
- Cable Tape Armoring
- Drums & Barrels
